Talk Title: A Vision for an Open Cloud

Talk Abstract: The MOC Alliance has been implementing a vision for an Open Cloud to enable different groups to stand up cloud services in a level playing field.  We have now reached a point where we can begin incorporating industry-owned technology and services and offer them, alongside production services offered by university research IT,  to a broad academic and non-profit community for research and education.   This evolutionary step will create the competitive environment that will drive innovation, introducing new and upcoming capabilities that won’t be found in the traditional, commercial cloud offerings.  The novel business model that will govern this cloud presents a unique opportunity for industry to introduce new technologies to real users at scale in order to gather valuable insights early in a product’s lifecycle.  To realize this vision is why I partnered with the MOC Alliance.  In this talk, I will describe the vision, the elements that are working now and introduce how the different talks in this session fit together into our vision.
