Talk Title: Learned Software Systems

Talk Abstract: Core systems software is responsible for critical decisions in computing infrastructure. These decisions have implications both for performance and resource (including energy) consumption and are made according to hand-written heuristics which can be sub-optimal. A burgeoning field (“ML for Systems”) focuses on applying machine learning techniques (Bayesian optimization, Reinforcement Learning, Evolutionary methods etc.) to learn better heuristics and build more robust systems. This talk will describe some of Red Hat’s current efforts in this area and also discuss potential future projects.

Bio: Sanjay Arora leads the AI agenda for Red Hat Research and is mainly interested in the application of machine learning to low-level systems.
